Natural, Relaxed, Honest

What is Candid Photography?

Candid photography is a style of photography that’s main purpose is to ‘document’ as opposed to creating a posed appearance.

The most important thing to me as a photographer is capturing people in the moment, unaware of the camera and relaxed in whatever situation they’re in / whatever emotion they feel; laughter, tears and all of it in between.

This is why I do not interfere, direct or tell any of my clients what to do. I shoot as an observer of the situation and capture moments unfolding naturally.

Photos with this intent in mind create the most precious memories full of nostalgia, honest emotion and beauty in the realness of the moment.

“Life as it unfolds in front of the camera is full of so much complexity, wonder and surprise that I find it unnecessary to find new realities.

There is more pleasure, for me, in things as they are.”

— David Hurn

Emotion - driven photography.

Whether documenting a wedding day or a couple of hours with a family, my photography style is centred around capturing the emotion in any situation.

Above is the PhotoFilm of Kate & Tom’s beautiful wedding where there were tears of joy, sadness and laughter and so many memories.

The details matter.

Details such as the dress, table decorations and locations are all essential elements to telling the story of your day. They are hugely important for piecing it all together and make for beautiful, frame-worthy photos.

A note on Black and White Photography

For me, black and white photography has a powerful and beautiful ability of bringing out emotion in an image that colour can eliminate.

That being said, all of my photography packages include images in both black and white and colour.

Even if an image looks great in one format, you have the other version too.

Maisie - Photographer

Photography is a huge part of my life. After having a camera in my hand for a couple of decades, I have naturally found my passion in documentary style photography; shooting as an observer, capturing the beautiful, real moments in every situation I’m in.

My objective is to create a legacy of images that you can look back on in years to come and re-live; remembering the moments as they naturally unfolded.

You can find me on Instagram, Facebook and you can see my photofilm work on Youtube.

I count myself very lucky to have lived by the coast all my life, which is why it’s an integral part of my work, particularly where on location Family photography is concerned.
